design idea for SERIOUS GAME

a person walks around and must dodge items designated as "bad" such as drugs, knives, bullies, etc, and must walk into "good" items, such as books, soccerballs, baseballs, etc. One all the good items are gathered from each level, you advance to the next level, which is slightly harder, and contains new items. You begin in elementary school and therefore, bullies are the only hardship you suffer, but as you progress to high school, you are introduced to new encounters such as drugs and gangs which you must learn to avoid. People should learn to keep clean and just say no to drugs and bad influences

reflection 2

From making the games, i learned that there are many new sorts of games that i was previously unaware of (like Sorceror's Game). Plus, board games have proven to require more time than i thought: such as drawing the board and making all the cards.

Both board game design and computer game design require similar planning processes. The creation of each is sometimes tedious, but they should both be planned out methodically to ensure an easier modification period later. They are different in that you can test out computer games after each addition you make to it, whereas board games usually won't work unless the entire game is complete. It is also easier to update computer games than board games.

I like Risk, Monopoly, Hilarium, and Cranium the most. Risk requires lots of skill and planning, and both risk and monopoly incorporate a level of luck. Monopoly also demands bargaining skills w/ personal gains. Hilarium is fun b/c it is an acting game which makes any boring night a lot more exciting, whether you win or lose. I like cranium b/c it combines artistic prowess w/ team chemistry and brains.

board game reflection

i learned to work w/ people ive only known for a couple days and to give and take ideas w/ them to make the best design possible
it was challenging to think of dares because we only knew several, but if we want to play the game we would need a lot more dares

board game idea...

race to the finish (on a board)
roll a die, move your token
choose a liquid of choice beforehand- to take shots of

if your token lands on a "Dare" space, you must complete a dare from a stack of cards w/dares
if dare is completed, draw a save card, which can be used later in the game
if dare is NOT completed, take a shot
if a player's token does not land on a dare space, next person goes

first person to reach the finish line wins

sample save card: Reverse Dare... this will allow you to switch the dare that you landed on, to one of your opponents, they take a shot if they do not complete it, but do not draw a save card if they do complete it

sample dare card: Get 10 high-fives in 30 seconds

About Me

Im chris hogan.
Live in MD.
Born in canada.

Favourite Games: Perfect Dark, Halo, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Super Smash Bros., Poker, Apples to Apples

Why these games? Most of them are challenging, but still managable to beat after a little practice. In all of them, the more i practice, the better i get at them because i adopt new strategies and techniques. Plus, nearly all of them are social games, where i play with other people, not just by myself.
